Algoma University - Procedure

Procedure to follow in the event of receiving email you believe may be a phishing attempt

One of the biggest risks companies face today that threaten the security of our systems and networks are phishing attempts. These are emails that attempt to get you to click on a link within the email that within a matter of seconds could result in you losing control of your computer, loss of all files on your computer and on the network at Algoma University.

In the event you receive an email that appears to be a phishing attempt, please forward that email to:  [email protected]

Algoma University's IT department will monitor emails sent to [email protected] and take whatever action is necessary. You will be informed if you need to take any further action.

If you make a mistake and click on a link that you should not have, immediately shut down your computer

You may have to pull the power plug from the power outlet, as the Windows shutdown command may already be disabled

Call the IT Service Desk (1-888-902-7866) immediately to inform IT of the situation.
